Many cities and farm villages sit on the banks of the upper and lower reaches. Seoul, the capital, sits astride this river of benevolence. The people of Kanghwa Island, which is located at the mouth of the river, have long been familiar with a song entitled "Weighing of Anchor."」「The song begins a soloist chanting "ya-ya oh oh-ya-ta oh-o" in free rhythm repeatedly a number of times and then moves to the singing part in which the soloist makes the calls and a chorus provides the responses:」「The bright moon in the clear sky makes us long for home. / Some are born under a lucky star to live in prosperity. / O-ya-ch's ra'ch'a o-yo-ch'a ra-ch'a / When the moon is gone it will be pitch dark. / While the moon lends us light, let's row faster / So that we may sit over wine and food.」「The short refrain "o-yo-ra-ch'a ra-chöa" is repeated in response to the call made by the soloist in four long-drawn out high tones to create a rhythm of labor.」「Let's row faster and hurry to Map'o / Where the good luck wine awaits us. / We shall try a cup or two.」「The soloist's part is the narration of events flowing from one stage to the next. The song comprises a number of parts in which the sail is hoisted, the boat is rowed, and finally arrives at port.
