Yet throughout all heritage has survived, and in its song many of the forms are retained. / Probably the most celebrated form is the Haka; a posture dance accompanied by a shouting chant. It has its origins in the gestures of defiance and contempt hurled at the enemy on the eve of battle. Now the Haka is performed for ceremonial occasions only.
