Tan Tan Takimizu」「Until the early twentieth century when rubber began to appear in this country, the Japanese had been using a ball made of cotton threads wound over and over until it became perfectly round. They would enjoy throwing it up into the sky and performing various tricks before it fell back down into their hands. Once it became possible to make a highly elastic, bouncing ball, they began to enjoy bouncing it repeatedly on the ground as many times as possible. The game was mainly played by girls, and the song recorded in this program was sung while the children competed in the number of times they could successfully bounce the ball.」「While playing together throwing their balls as high up into the air as possible, the children would tell some amusing and cheerful story before they safely received the ball back into their hands in quite a nonchalant way. Later, they came to sing such a song when they bounced the ball on the ground. Still later they concentrated on bouncing the ball, and while bouncing they sang a counting rhyme, counting the number of bounces from one to ten, and rhyming the sounds of the numbers with the names of various things they found around them.」「The song recorded in this program is entitled "Tan Tan Takimizu" and is sung by primary school children in Kamegamori in O'hazama City, Iwate Prefecture. Her face is beautiful and her posture superb. One day a young man asked for her hand. So she asked her employer if she could leave her work, but he would not agree and said that he wouldn't let her leave him yet, but she should continue working for him for several more years. In the first place, he said, she was far too young to be married."」「"I levelled the dust hill over there to make it into a garden and scattered rice grains near a rock. One day passed, two days passed, and three days passed. And then cherry blossoms began to bloom and pine trees grew. Come over here, crows and kites, perch on the branches of these trees. I'll hang a rosary around the neck of the crow, who will perch on the eaves of a temple. Now, I wonder what has happened to the beautiful girl who lives next door.
