Inoko Uta (Song of the Children of the Wild Boar)」「On the first day of I (wild boar）in October，according to the twelve horary signs, children in the farming villages of Japan used to make the rounds of the houses, each carrying a bundle of straw held like a stick or a round rock tied with strings, with which they would strike the ground in the yard of each farmhouse. The residents of the house would give the children some mochi (rice cakes)[See A-5: Inari Mannen-ko], as well as some small coins．Finally the children would return to a makeshift hut they themselves had built, and distribute among themselves all the presents they had been offered. This custom was known as inoko which literally means the "children of the wild boar"」「Originally introduced from Mainland China this very ancient ritual is said to have been observed in the Japanese court as early as 866. On the night of the full moon in October, people would make the rounds of the houses and strike and poke the ground as a gesture of thanksgiving to the gods who had brought them a good harvest that year and in their belief that by striking the ground they could convey their wishes to the gods; in other words, they did so for the purpose of conveying their joy to the god of the paddy fields who had helped them harvest bumper crops, and for the purpose of praying to him for an other good harvest for the coming year. This custom came to be observed not by adults but by children after the sixteenth or seventeenth century.」「"Inoko Uta" is the song which was sung by the children as they struck the ground on the day of in October．」「The present recording was made by primary school children in Hiroshima Prefecture．」「The content of the song is as follows："On the day of Inoko we make mochi.
