雑資料「JAPANESE NURSERY & CHILDREN'S SONGS」一頁に「A.SONGS RELATED TO ANNUAL EVENTS」「6. Tanabata no Uta (Tanabata Song) 55"」、十一頁に「6.Tanabata no Uta (Tanabata Song)」「There is an old story in Japan that on the night of July 7th, which is know as the day of Tanabata, the stars Altair and Vega observe their annual tryst, though with the Milky Way flowing between them. It is an old belief also that wishes made that particular night will come true. For many years, the Japanese have celebrated this romantic festival every year by hanging from bamboo branches long and narrow strips of colorful paper. On these they write」、十二頁に「down all kinds of wishes which they hope will come true, and decorate their gardens with the branches. They also make bean-jam buns as an offering to Altair and Vega. On the following day, July 8th, they carry the colorfully decorated bamboo branches to a nearby river and float them on the waters.」「The origin of this festival seems to be very old. It is said to have been observed as one of the country's numerous agricultural ceremonies, particularly those linked to water. By setting the paper strips bearing their wishes to float on the rivers people seem to have tried to cleanse themselves of mortal stains and sins.」「"Tanabata no Uta" (Tanabata Song) used to be sung as people tied the paper strips on to the bamboo branches on the evening of July 7th.」「The singer in this recording is an old man from Wakayama Prefecture at the southernmost tip of western Honshu, which juts out into the Pacific Ocean. Wakayama is said to be the birthplace of the fishing industry in this country.」「The words of this song go something like this: "As July 7th is the day for the Tanabata festival, let's put the cucumbers and eggplants which we offer to the gods on that day to float on the river."」「The custom of Tanabata itself is still observed colorfully throughout the country as a children's festival, and also as a festival for the people of shopping districts; but the singing of Tanabata songs for the celebration of this particular day has gradually come to be looked upon as out of date.」と記載。
