As the name implies the dance comes from the Province of Saravane in South Laos but its popularity has spread all over the country due in part no doubt to Radio. Another reason is unquestionably the particularly striking rhythm of the Saravane - once heard it is difficult to forget. / A particular feature of the instrumentation of the Saravane is the Lao two-stringed fiddle which uses a hollow piece of bamboo as a resonator. The other instruments are Khene, small gong series, Cymbals and drums. / The singer tells a simple story of a man who comes to visit the town of Kong Sedone.
