Before leaving Hawaiiki her captain had asked the Tohunga or High Priest to come aboard and perform the sacred rites which would protect them on the voyage. But no sooner were the tohunga and his wife aboard, the captain ordered the sails to be raised and the Arawa put to sea. The Priest was furious and secretly planned revenge. One day he called aloud to the heavens, and out of the clear, blue sky sprang a great wind; the clouds were dull and heavy, the sea licked hungrily at the sides of the canoe and her carved prow disappeared under the furious waves. The Priest watched impassively as the gods battered the canoe and tried to pull the crew over the side. At last he took pity on them invoking the protection of the sea gods; slowly the seething ocean resumed its former unruffled calm. Today the Arawa tribe remember the journey of their ancestral canoe in this action song.」と記載(「ギター伴」の書き込みあり)。
