Since this tape was recorded at the actual site of fishing, the cries of sea gulls and the squeaking sounds of rowing provide a realistic background.」「1) The Sound of Rowing」「There is no definite melodic or rhythmic pattern to this chanty. Only the utterance "ee-ya" is chanted repeatedly. The chanting is interrupted by a call --O-ho-i"- at regular intervals to lessen the tedium of a monotonous work. The slapping of waves at the boat's hull and the squeaking of the row provide a pleasant accompaniment.」「2) The Song of Scooping」「Both the call and the response are made up of a simple chant of "ei-ya-ch'a." Simple phrases are occasionally introduced impromptu by the soloist.
