雑資料「JAPANESE NURSERY & CHILDREN'S SONGS」二頁に「C. SONGS FEATURING ANIMALS」「6. Tonbi Daka-daka (Kite,Fly High) 46"」、二十頁に「6. Tonbi Daka-daka (Kite, Fly High)」「Tonbi or tobi (kite) has long been regarded in this country as a messenger of the god of justice. Japanese mythology tells the following story featuring a kite. One day when a famous hero was fighting a losing battle against an evil-hearted enemy, a golden kite suddenly flew towards him and perched on top of his bow. As the kite shone so brightly and its rays reached in all directions, the eyes of the enemies were blinded, and the hero won an overwhelming victory. Since the Japanese people's admiration for the tonbi based on the legend is so great, the medal of the highest-ranked order issued in this country is shaped like a kite. 」「The kite is also regarded as the smartest of all birds, and it is, in fact, designated as one of the officially protected birds in this country. The Japanese are really very fond of the tonbi.」「Kites usually fly high and leisurely up in the sky, drawing large circles. So whenever the children spot these birds they talk to them and sometimes ask them to fly in some particular ways. "Tonbi Daka-daka" is a song sung on such occasions.」「The singers in this recording are the primary school children of Araki Village in Mamurogawa Town, Mogami County in Yamagata Prefecture. Araki flourished as a post town, as it was situated on a mountain pass, until the middle of the nineteenth century, but after the railways were laid it lost its importance. Practically no one except the villagers can be seen in Araki today.」「The words of the song go something like this: "You, kites, fly in a circle high up in the sky. Make a large, large circle. We'll give you a whole herring if you do so. Now, please draw another circle. You strike the temple bell on a hill at the back of our village to tell the time, don't you? But you get only 750 grams of rice for each stroke. We'll give you a whole herring every time you make a circle in the sky, so it's worth trying, isn't it? Do draw a circle in the sky for us."」と記載。
