- 雑資料「JAPANESE NURSERY & CHILDREN'S SONGS」二頁に「C. SONGS FEATURING ANIMALS」「4. Karasu, Karasu (Crow, Crow) 39"」、十九頁に「4. Karasu, Karasu (Crow, Crow) 39"」「Japanese farmers have long regarded the karasu (crow) as a divine messenger of the god of the mountains. They have believed that this god also rules over farms. A report is found in an old Japanese chronicle written as early as the seventh century saying that a crow served as a guide for the people. On the other hand, the Japanese have also regarded this bird as a deliverer of ominous news. Whenever, for example, a crow caws near a house early in the morning, they say somebody in that house is bound to die. Except for in the mornings, however, people look upon this bird with familiarity, and since crows usually live near houses and are in sight all the time, children in the past regarded them as their friends, and often addressed or talked to these birds, sometimes even trying to imitate them.」「The song recorded in this program takes the form of children addressing crows in the evening. The singer is an old man in the Aizu district of Fukushima Prefecture. He sang this song from memory; he spent his early childhood in Aizu. Aizu, by the way, is a small castle town which lies in the eastern part of Honshu. It is surrounded by mountains.」「The words of the song go something like this: "Crow, crow, where're you going? Visiting the mountain temple? What do you hold in your mouth? Some fallen ears of rice? Or are they just some grains of old rice? Why not share them with us,crow? For we're starving with nothing to eat. Then, you should grow rice for yourselves. We can't, for the paddy fields are cold. You should make a fire and warm yourselves. We'll be too hot then. Keep away from the fire.We can't,for if we do,we'll be bitten by fleas and our skin will get itchy. Don't say we can scratch, for then we'll be hurt. Well, we don't keep complaining just to be lazy."The children continue to sing in this way, capping one verse after another.」「Since this was a children's song in the farming villages in Fukushima Prefecture,it become less and less popular there as rapid urbanization continues to advance in the area, and also as such naive feelings among the children nowadays as regarding crows as their friends are fast disappearing.」と記載。
